The Oceanside real estate area is both coastal and inland.  Oceanside is most famous for its connection to the Marine Corps and has the largest military base in the US, Camp Pendleton. Most of the new housing in the Oceanside real estate area is inland, well away from the ocean.  Downtown Oceanside is located just south of Camp Pendleton.

Oceanside HarborOceanside also attracts many tourists. It has a great harbor for small boats and a very popular fishing pier.  Oceanside also has miles of good beaches.  Oceanside history starts with the mission San Luis Rey which was founded in 1798.  Settlers would travel over to the ocean on Sundays for recreation.  They would say do you want to go to the “Ocean side.”  Soon that evolved into the name of the area.

The Oceanside real estate area is very suburban. Oceanside is now the third most populous city in San Diego County. About 25 percent of the Oceanside homes and apartments were built in 1970s, and about one half between 1980 and 2000. Thus, about 75 percent of all Ocedanside homes are less than 35 years old. There is a great retirement community in the Oceanside real estate area just south of Interstate 78.  It is called Oceanside Hills Country Club.
