Downtown Escondido
Major Renovation
The downtown Escondido real estate area has changed in recent years. There have been the additions of many good restaurants, art galleries, cafes, and boutiques. 101 Grand for lunch and dinner and Champions for breakfast are two of the favorites. The California Center for the Arts was part of this renovation. The Center has two theaters (one with 1500 seats), an educational complex, a museum and a large conference center. The Center attracts big name acts and preformances, Faith Hill to mention one. There is a new multiplex theater complex, restaurants, and a shopping center across Escondido Boulevard from the center.
Downtown Escondido Activities
On Friday nights in the summer, downtown Escondido hoast “Crusin’ Grand.”
Grand is Escondido’s main street. Different car clubs and different types of cars are featured each week. Also, in the summer is the spectacular 4th of July fireworks show. Escondido hoast another great fireworks show on New Year’s Eve, called First Night. This premiere celebration is an alcohol free, family affair. It is a giant street party with a dozen stages, local and national bands, an extravagant fireworks show, and food from the local downtown restaurants. There are also weekly farmers markets.
Near Downtown
To the west of downtown is the 61 million dollar Iceoplex. The complex is home to youth hockey. A little east of downtown is home to many medical clinics, doctors’ offices and Palomar Hospital, one of the only trauma centers in San Diego County. A new Palomar Hospital is current under construction on the far west edge of Escondido. This should be finished by 2011. To the south of the downtown is the largest indoor shopping mall in San Diego County, Westfield’s North County Fair. North County fair has parking for over 4500 cars, has 160 shops, 15 restaurants, and 4 major department stores: Macy’s, Penney’s, Sears, and Nordstrom’s.
Old Escondido Homes

Historic Escondido Home
Near downtown is Old Historic Escondido real estate area which was established by the City in 1991. The Old Escondido Historical District is bounded by 13th on the south , 4th on the north, Chestnut on the east, and Escondido Boulevard on the west. Most of the Old Escondido homes are small, but are well maintained and many lovingly restored. From tiny bungalows to magnificent Victorian Esconido homes, the Old Escondido Historic District contains the majority of the City’s historic resourses. Most of the over 900 Old Escondido homes were built in the mid 1800′s. They provide great examples of early California architecture.
