Poway is a city in San Diego County just to the south of the communities of Escondido and Rancho Bernardo. Even though Poway lies geographically in the middle of San Diego County, for purposes of this blog, I consider Poway to be part of San Diego North County real estate. Poway is zip code 92064.
Poway has a total area of 40 square miles.For approximately a century, Poway served as a stock range for the Mission San Diego de Alcalá, until settlers began to come to the valley for farming purposes. Today many residents mistake Poway for an old Western-style cowboy town, but its original settlers came to farm. The fertile soil proved well-suited to a variety of crops, including peaches, Muscat grapes, apricots, pears, hay, and alfalfa. Dairying also proved lucrative.
Poway has ceased to exist as a farming town, with the value of land increasing. Poway has transformed into a locale full of small commercial businesses and modest shopping centers.
Poway has become a prime real estate value in San Diego North County, attracting many affluent home owners, especially pro sports figures.
