Calavera Hills is a moderately price planned community on the northern edge of Carlsbad and east of Interstate 5. As with other areas of Carlsbad, Calavera Hills boast of great schools. Calavera Hills also has a beautiful neighborhood park, and attractive community center, and year-round sports and activities. In fact, I spent many a Saturday watching my granddaughter play solf ball on the Calavera Hills ball fields. The Calavera Hills Park covers over 16 acres and includes 3 multi-use playing fields, play areas for young children, tennis courts, and a community center with a wood floor basketball court.
On the eastern edge of calavera Hills is the Calavera Nature Preserve. This beautiful 110-acre site features Mount Calavera and has over four miles of hiking and biking trails. The preserve also has a 400-acre Lake Calavera Reservoir. To the south of Calavera Nature Preserve is a 400-acre Carlsbad Highland Ecological Reserve.
